ARCHITECTURAL INTERNSHIP VACANCIES IN INDIA

At SDAARCHITECT, we believe that, as an architecture student, the quicker one starts to get hands on experience in the professional world, the quicker one can begin to internalize the necessary processes and methodologies essential to working as an architect in India.

You must think of the five years spent in architectural school as time spent in preparing yourself for real-world architectural development.

If you are diligent and hardworking in your architectural internship at SDAARCHITECT, by the time you graduate, you will have had atleast a years worth (cumulatively) of internship and work experience as an architect intern.

This will allow you to be more certain of the architectural career you want, the jobs you want to apply to, and the confidence and ability to make educated decisions.

A GUIDE FOR ARCHITECTURE INTERNS

HOW TO APPLY FOR ARCHITECT INTERNSHIPS

Since interning under a licensed Indian architect was made an essential requirement for graduating from an architectural college in India, SDAARCHITECT, like most architectural design firms, is constantly contacted by architectural students wanting internship opportunities at our architectural company.

However, it is a sad fact that most of the architectural internship applications we recieved are immediately rejected, because of a basic lack of professionalism in the presentation of portfolions, low quality error-ridden cover letters, and no understanding of proper application protocol.

AVOID COPY-PASTED CVs

We recieve hundreds of applications. Most of them have the exact same wording, the same paragraphs, the same “ABOUT ME” description on the resume. Please understand that any architectural firm that gets many internship application will immediately spot copy-and-paste jobs. If you’re applying for an internship in SDAARCHITECT, remember that in all likelihood, all your classmates have applied to us as well. And if we spot any duplication in your CV, your application will immediately be rejected on grounds of plagiarism.

ALWAYS ATTACH A PORTFOLIO

  • CVs sent without a corresponding portfolio are rejected without evaluation.
  • Your portfolio should have your projects presented in chronological order (semester 1,2,3 etc).
  • Avoid writing “walls-of-text” in your portfolio – – long paragraphs about your design. These will not be read, because a key skillset of an architect is the ability to be concise and to-the-point in their project descriptions.
  • Focus on communicating VISUALLY – – have diagrams explaining your design and thought processes.

DO NOT MASS-MAIL

From time to time, we get applications where it is evident that the same E-Mail has been sent to hundreds of architectural firms. Clearly, these students are seen by us as spam-mailers, and not serious about their architectural internship application. Mass E-Mails are dismissed without evaluation.

Your application to SDAARCHITECT must be based on your prior knowledge of our firm. If you apply to your office without having any knowledge of our past projects, our design philosophy, and our work methodology, we will naturally assume that you don’t take this internship application very seriously.

FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS

Your ability to learn as an architectural intern is directly proportional to your ability to follow instructions given by an experienced senior architect. The more that you are able to pay attention and absorb the procedural aspects of architectural work, as taught to you by the architects you are interning under, the quicker you will be able to be useful and a valuable asset to architecture firms.

As a pre-screening strategy for architectural internship applications, we have devised a checklist below that you must follow for your internship application to be approved. If this checklist is not followed, your internship application will be rejected, and no follow-up will be entertained.
