Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology

The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) is a premier institution in India dedicated to education and research in the fields of polymer science and technology. Established in 1968 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, under the aegis of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, CIPET was founded with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). Its primary objective was to develop skilled manpower in various disciplines of plastics engineering and technology, addressing a significant gap in the country's industrial landscape at the time.

Expansion and National Presence

Over the years, CIPET has expanded its footprint across the nation, operating 43 centers with plans to establish nine more. These centers cater to the needs of the polymer and allied industries, providing a wide array of services including education, training, and technical support.

Academic Programs

Academically, CIPET offers a diverse range of programs, including undergraduate (B.E./B.Tech.), postgraduate (M.E./M.Tech.), and doctoral degrees in fields such as plastics engineering, manufacturing engineering, and polymer nanotechnology. These programs are affiliated with renowned institutions like Anna University and are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). In addition to degree programs, CIPET provides diploma and postgraduate diploma courses focusing on specialized areas like plastics processing and testing, mould design, and CAD/CAM.

Infrastructure and Technical Facilities

CIPET centers are equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, featuring advanced facilities in design, CAD/CAM/CAE, tooling and mould manufacturing, plastics processing, testing, and quality assurance. This robust infrastructure enables the institution to offer technology support services such as consultancy in design, tooling, plastics processing, and quality assurance to the plastics and allied industries.
